805 Lacrosse has grown tremendously in the past few years. We are planning on adding a second high school team in North County for the Spring 2025 season, with practices anticipated to occur in Templeton. Players will be able to choose to play on either the North County or SLO based team, whichever one works best for that player and their family.
Our tentative plan is to compete in the Pacific Lacrosse League as 805 SLO and 805 North County. That will provide a six game PLL season schedule (3 home, 2 away in Bakersfield, 1 other away but still local) plus potential playoff games.
We also will be scheduling games with some of the stronger NorCal club teams, such as Elk Grove. When we travel to Elk Grove to play the NorCal club teams (or host them), or participate in higher level tournaments, we will likely break the teams down into 805 Varsity and 805 JV teams instead of by geography.
That will allow each player to get at least six games with their geographical team and another 4-6 games with the 805 Varsity (JR's and SR's) or 805 JV team (Freshman and Sophomores).
With the continued growth of lacrosse in our area and in California, we are working hard to add CIF level lacrosse into a number of SLO County high schools in the coming years. We can't predict exactly when that will happen, but we are hopeful to make that shift by the 2026 or 2027 seasons.
JANUARY 2025 PRACTICES
Practices for the high school team will begin in January 2025 and will be held in the late afternoon/early evening on weekdays and Saturdays during the pre-season. We typically start practicing in mid-January, with just 1 or 2 practices per week - one afternoon and on Saturday morning. Exact practice days and times are still to be determined. All of the January practices will be held in SLO.
FEBRUARY - MAY PRACTICES
By mid-February, we anticipate to increasing to 2-3 practices per week. The SLO based team will practice at Laguna Middle School twice per week, and the North County team will practice somewhere in Templeton twice per week (exact field to be determined). Most weeks, we will also have one additional practice per week in SLO for all of our 805 high school players.
The 2025 game schedule is still being determined, but games will likely begin in mid-March and run through late May.
Registration costs for the 2025 high school season will be $300. Registration fees go toward league dues, referee costs, field rentals, goals, and other necessary equipment; costs have been set as low as possible and only go toward covering costs. All 805 Lacrosse coaches are volunteers. In addition to the 805 Lacrosse registration fees, all players must be current members of USA Lacrosse and provide their own lacrosse equipment, as well as cover any costs associated with traveling to away games. If there are players who are interested in playing but may not be able to afford the registration cost, please contact Coach Lea regarding payment plans or potential scholarships.
The high school program is led by Coach Marc Lea, the former coach for the Cal Poly Mustangs Mens' Lacrosse program. In nearly twenty successful seasons with Cal Poly, Coach Lea helped the Mustangs earn five WCLL league titles, was named the WCLL Coach of the Year in four different seasons, and was awarded MCLA National Coach of the Year honors in 2012. Coach Lea is assisted by Dave Aguilar, who played lacrosse collegiately at UC Davis.
805 Lacrosse and our coaching staff are dedicated to teaching the game to anyone interested in learning. You do not need to have previous lacrosse playing experience to join our team. In addition, we are more than welcome to have interested players attend practice and develop basic skills prior to registering. We can provide you with an opportunity to learn the game before you decide if you want to join the team and pay the necessary registration fees. Contact us if you're interested in attending a practice or getting trained on basic lacrosse fundamentals.
