SPRING 2026 SEASON OVERVIEW

  • We will continue competing as a club team in spring 2026 with games against teams from Bakersfield, Elk Grove, Santa Barbara, Chico, and other areas.
  • We are anticipating having 35-45 high school boys playing this upcoming season but are always looking to add additional players, especially as we hope to expand into official CIF teams in the next few years ("going CIF" would mean that local high schools like SLO, Templeton, Arroyo Grande, Mission Prep, Morro Bay, etc. would each have their own official team).
  • We will play a mix of varsity games (juniors, seniors, and potentially a handful of talented freshmen and sophomores) and JV games (freshmen and sophomores only), depending on which team we are playing.
  • Practices will begin in late January 2026 (only 1-2 practices per week in January). We also have optional Fall 2025 practices:

  • Practices will increase in February (2-3 practices per week).
  • Most practices will likely be in SLO. If we have enough players based out of the North County (Templeton, Atascadero, Paso Robles), we may officially split into two teams - North County and South County - and then the North County team would practice in Templeton. That will depend on player numbers and the geographical split of all of our players.
  • Registration is $300 for the season. In addition, each player will need to become a USA Lacrosse member prior to registration ($35 per year).  Registration will open in late November or early December.
  • Full sets of rental gear are available, and you can select that option during the online registration process. If you only need one or two items of equipment, contact Coach Lea and he may have stuff that you can borrow for the season.
  • Practice attendance is expected. However, if you are playing a Winter season sport, we understand that attendance will be spotty until that season is completed in February.

2026 Spring Season - Additional Details

805 Lacrosse has grown tremendously in the past few years. In 2025, we added a second high school team based out of Templeton. Although we anticipate having even more players in the 2025-2026 season, fewer of them are from North County. So, we aren't exactly sure how we will be dividing into teams this year.

The most likely scenario is that we will compete as one large 805 Sharks team, with practices based out of SLO, but split into Varsity and JV squads, depending on the game. However we divide the players, we are confident that we will be able to schedule a full 10+ game season for all of our players, regardless of grade.

With the continued growth of lacrosse in our area and in California, we are working hard to add CIF level lacrosse into a number of SLO County high schools in the coming years. We can't predict exactly when that will happen, but we are hopeful to make that shift by the 2027 or 2028 seasons.

JANUARY 2026 PRACTICES
Practices for the high school team will begin in January 2026 and will be held in the late afternoon/early evening on weekdays and Saturdays during the pre-season. We typically start practicing in mid-January, with just 1 or 2 practices per week - one afternoon and on Saturday morning. Exact practice days and times are still to be determined. All of the January practices will be held in SLO.

FEBRUARY - MAY PRACTICES
By mid-February, we anticipate to increasing to 2-3 practices per week.

The 2026 game schedule is still being determined, but games will likely begin in mid-March and run through late May.

Registration costs for the 2026 high school season will be $300. Registration fees go toward league dues, referee costs, field rentals, goals, and other necessary equipment; costs have been set as low as possible and only go toward covering costs. All 805 Lacrosse coaches are volunteers. In addition to the 805 Lacrosse registration fees, all players must be current members of USA Lacrosse and provide their own lacrosse equipment, as well as cover any costs associated with traveling to away games. If there are players who are interested in playing but may not be able to afford the registration cost, please contact Coach Lea regarding payment plans or potential scholarships.

The high school program is led by Coach Marc Lea, the former coach for the Cal Poly Mustangs Mens' Lacrosse program. In nearly twenty successful seasons with Cal Poly, Coach Lea helped the Mustangs earn five WCLL league titles, was named the WCLL Coach of the Year in four different seasons, and was awarded MCLA National Coach of the Year honors in 2012. Coach Lea is assisted by Dave Aguilar, who played lacrosse collegiately at UC Davis.

805 Lacrosse and our coaching staff are dedicated to teaching the game to anyone interested in learning. You do not need to have previous lacrosse playing experience to join our team. In addition, we are more than welcome to have interested players attend practice and develop basic skills prior to registering. We can provide you with an opportunity to learn the game before you decide if you want to join the team and pay the necessary registration fees. Contact us if you're interested in attending a practice or getting trained on basic lacrosse fundamentals.
