805 Sharks Win 1st PLL League Title
805 SHARKS WIN THEIR FIRST LEAGUE TITLE!
May 14, 2022 (Garces High School, Bakersfield) -
The 805 Sharks boys' high school team defeated the Bakersfield Rams 6 - 4
on Saturday to earn their 1st Pacific Lacrosse League title.
The Sharks had performed well all season, posting a 4-2 record, with their only two losses coming at the hands of a talented and deep Rams squad. The third try was a charm for the Sharks, as they outplayed the Rams in the decisive title game leading the contest from start to finish.
With only thirteen players suited up and healthy for the title game, the Sharks needed contributions from the entire squad to pull off the upset and the entire roster played significant minutes and everyone made huge plays to help earn the victory. Offensively, the Sharks were led by strong performances from junior attackman Colby White (1 goal, 2 assists), senior attackman Robert Collett (1 goal), junior midfielder Max Hanchett (1 goal), and senior midfielder Max Sosa (1 goal). Hanchett and Sosa also excelled on face-offs, sharing the face-off duties and helping the Sharks control the possession battle. Sophomore attackman Ty Chapman and freshman midfielder Xavier Wiseman also notched key goals in the 4th quarter to help secure the victory.
The game ball and MVP of the title game went to senior goaltender Audie Stevens, who had his best game of the season and one of his best games in his high school career as he made 23 saves, while only allowing 4 goals, for an impressive .852 save percentage.
The 805 Sharks have been competing in the Pacific Lacrosse League since 2018. With the COVID pandemic shutting down the 2020 and 2021 seasons, the Sharks earned their first PLL title in just their 3rd full year of competition.
