Sharks JV Squad Wins Santa Barbara Summer Showdown Tournament
June 22, 2025 - Santa Barbara
The 805 Lacrosse Sharks JV High School squad went undefeated on the weekend to win the program's first Santa Barbara Summer Showdown tournament championship.
SATURDAY
Game #1: The Sharks JV squad opened up the tournament with a 6-1 victory over LV Lax out of Agoura Hills. Kyle Sass (2028) got the Sharks offense off to a quick start, with an unassisted lefty goal on a right to left split dodge from up top. Maverick Shannon (2029) scored the team's next four goals, three of them coming on assists from Sass. Defenseman Dylan Leeder found Boden Nichols for the final goal of the game, and the Sharks defense held LV to a single goal late in the 2nd half.
Game #2: After an impressive showing in the opening game, the JV squad kept rolling in game #2 on Saturday, racing out to a 6-0 halftime lead against Team 241 out of Laguna Beach. They added another 5 goals in the 2nd half and the defense again limited their opponent to a single second half goal for a final score of 11-1.
The offense was again led by Sass (2g, 2a) and Shannon (2 g, 3a), but with plenty of contributions coming in from the rest of the offense, including Patrick Cleary (3g), Kai Bayly (2g), Clayton Parsons (1g,1a), and Craig Loveridge (1g).
SUNDAY
Game #3: After two comfortable victories on Saturday, the competition ratcheted up on Sunday. In the morning game, the Sharks took on Ronin Gold from Glendale. The Sharks jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals from Cleary (assisted by Loveridge) and Shannon (assisted from Leeder), but Ronin scored the next two goals to knot the game up at halftime.
Kyle Sass scored the first goal of the 2nd half and then assisted Shannon on a sneak from X on an EMO penalty opportunity. Ronin scored to draw within one, but the Sharks controlled the rest of the game and came away with the 6-4 victory. With the win, the Sharks finished pool play 3-0 and grabbed the #1 seed in the Championship game.
Championship Game: The Sharks faced off against an LV squad that added some reinforcements since the opening match the day before. Shannon got the scoring started on an assist from Braden Sioredas (2029), and then Sioredas scored his own unassisted goal to jump out to a 2-0 lead. LV battled back to within a goal by halftime at 4-3.
The second half was a defensive struggle with each team managing just two goals. The Sharks defense, anchored by Leeder and goalkeeper Dax Pryor (2029), managed to hold a strong LV team to just five goals on the day and came away with a hard fought 6-5 victory.
All of the Sharks players saw significant playing time and it took contributions from the entire team to come away with the first SB Summer Showdown Tournament title for the 805 Lacrosse program.
